Junk the Jargon

The modern workplace is awash with confusing jargon, and this is especially true of job adverts. For graduates trying to navigate a competitive recruitment landscape—cryptic buzzwords and acronyms cause mistrust, frustration and anxiety.

Set Reset has partnered with Milkround, a graduate focused jobs board, and language expert Steven Poole to investigate workplace jargon. Using data from 40,000 job ads and a survey of 2,000 recent graduates, this article and interactive decoder aims to identify the most common jargon, and offer plain English alternatives for those trying to craft (or decode) an effective job advertisement.
