Running the Numbers

Marathons are becoming an ever more popular hobby, with hundreds of thousands of competitors entering the largest events. Much is written about the Kipchoges of the sport, but how well do the amateurs stack up?

BBC Science Focus magazine commissioned Set Reset to create a printed data visualisation exploring the increased interest in amateur marathon running. This double page spread uses data from RunRepeat to show the differences in performance between nationalities and the growth of running for their respective countries. Key insights are pulled out to highlight the fastest, slowest, and most gender-equal nations.
